Garrymore beat Ballagh’ in 5 goal thriller
Garrymore Seniors took on Ballaghaderreen in the Mayo Senior League yesterday Afternoon and won on the very unusual scoreline of 4-5 to 1-13. The result leaves Garrymore in third place still three points behind Castlebar in second and 5 behind Ballintubber in first. Garrymore went in trailing at half time by four points 1-2 to 1-6, Garry’s goal coming from Micheal Connolly.
Garrymore enjoyed a lot of the possession in the second half as Ballaghaderreen pulled a lot of men behind the ball in order to defend their lead but a high ball into the Ballaghaderreen small square caused confusion and wing forward Brendan Cunningham fisted the ball into the net to put Garrymore ahead. Further goals were added through Trevor Nally and Brendan Cunningham again to extend Garrymore’s lead. Ballaghaderreen slowly drawing drew the sides level as they hit Garrymore on the counter each time they drove forward.
With minutes to play Garrymore went two points in front thanks to a Jimmy Killeen free and a fine point from the full back Kieran Cunningham. With the last play of the game Ballaghaderreen scored the final point which was not enough to get anything from the game.
Next up for Garrymore is the Mayo Senior Championship 1/4 final against Charlestown Sunday at 3.30pm.
