2017 off to a winning start

The 2017 season got underway Yesterday morning as Garrymore took on Claremorris in the opening round of the Michael Walsh league. Played in Claremorris in decent conditions given the time of year it was the away side who came away with the victory after a very tight affair throughout. Both sides were missing many regulars on the day but it still made for an exciting game as it always does between the two local teams.

The sides went in level at half time 1-5 a piece with Garrymore’s goal coming from Full forward Darren Quinn. Garrymore played against a slight breeze in the first half and led for long periods but there was never more than a score between the sides.

Claremorris hit their purple patch early in the second half and went three points ahead midway through the half before Garrymore got their second wind. With 15 minutes to go Garrymore took control which started of with a goal after some good Garrymore link play before Trevor Nally got a fist to the ball to put it into the Claremorris net. Further points were added before the end to give Garrymore a four point win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-11.

Next up for Garrymore is Hollymount/Carramore next Sunday.
