Back to winning ways
Garrymore seniors got back to winning ways last weekend with a one point victory over All ireland Finalists Castlebar in division 1A of the league.
Played in almost ideal conditions both sides opted for a defensive approach with players getting behind the ball at every opportunity. In a low scoring game Garrymore lead at half time 1-4 to 0-4 with the goal coming from Mark Tierney.
A cross field breeze picked up in the second half that favorited the away side slightly and it was the county champions that made the better of the opening period. Despite Castlebar’s pressure Garrymore kept the board ticking over on the other end and for the remaining 20 minutes there was never more than a point between the sides.
Halfway through stoppage time Garrymore got the all important winning score to win by the minimum. Final score from Garrymore: Garrymore 1-10 Castlebar 0-12.
