Senior League Round 1 report
A last minute goal saved Garrymore blushes last Saturday evening as they came away with a point in the first round of the league. A goal down with seconds left on the clock, a long ball kicked into the full forward line caused panic in the Claremorris defense in which Mark Tierney capitalized on slotting the ball past the Claremorris goalkeeper.
Played in very difficult underfoot conditions it was Garrymore who got of to the better start leading 4 points to 0 after 10 minutes. Despite Garrymores early dominance they didn’t convert on the scoreboard and let the away side back into the game. Half time came and Garrymore lead by just two, 6 points to 4. Like the first half it was the home side who made the better start and went into a 5 point lead. It looked like things were going to get worse for Claremorris who had a man sent off 10 minutes into the half but the opposite happened.
From the 40th minute up until the closing minutes of the game Claremorris dominated throughout the field and led going into injury time. Garrymore did threaten the Claremorris goal a number of times in the closing moments but it wasn’t until the last kick of the game did they convert.
Final score: Garrymore 1-12 Claremorris 1-12
