Seniors get promoted
Garrymore seniors finished the 2013 season on a winning note with a 2-20 to 3-8 win over Moy Davitts yesterday in Forxford. The victory has also insured promotion to division 1A for next year for Garrymore who will play in Mayos top flight for the first time since dropping down in 2005.
From the moment the ball was thrown in Garrymore were in complete control of this game. They dominated possession from early on and after only a few moments of play Garrymore had the ball in the back of the Moy Davitts net.
Garrymore played some excellence football through the first half and extended their lead to 12 points thanks to a Martin Maloney goal towards the end of the half.
Moy Davitts respond with a goal almost right away, a high ball came into the Garrymore square which wasn’t dealt with by the defense and the Moy Davitts corner forwards slotted the ball into the Garrymore goal.
Garrymore went in at half time leading 2-09 to 1-03.
Nine points up starting the second half Garrymore continued to apply the pressure and extended their lead but as the game looked to be getting out of sight for the home team they managed to get two goals to keep in touch with Garrymore. Despite conceding two goals in the second half Garrymore always had to much for the Moy side men.
Final score from Foxford. Garrymore 2-20 Moy Davitts 3-08.
The victory also marked the last game for Jack Grimes who stepped down after two years as senior team manager.
