Garrymore retain O’Mara Cup
Garrymore seniors retained the O’Mara Cup yesterday after winning it for the first time in sixteen years last year. Hollymount/Carrmore provide the opposition with whom Garrymore will play next in the league in a couple of week time.
The game played in very wet and slippy conditions provided a very entertaining game for the large crowd in attendance. The game was very much nip and tuck for the opening 20 minutes with both sides trading scores with each other 1-5 to 1-5 Garrymore’s goal coming from Mark Tierney. Not long before half time Hollymount/Carramore scored 3 points to Garrymore’s one to lead 1-8 to 1-6.
Garrymore playing with the wind in the second half controlled the game from beginning to end. Despite Hollymount/Carrmore getting the opening score of the half it was Garrymore who had far more of the scoring chances in the half. Garrymore went three points in front before Enda Varley got the all important goal to seal the win for Garrymore with less the five minutes to go.
Hollymount/Carramore did pull one more back but it wasn’t enough to take the crown from the Garrymore men on the day.
Final score from Hollymount: Garrymore 2-13 Hollymount/Carramore 1-11.
