Seniors go second
Garrymore seniors took on Kilmaine is the 6th round of the Mayo Senior league yesterday. played in heavy underfoot conditions the away side came away with the all important two points to go joint second in the league along with Castlebar, Ballintubber & Hollymount/Carrmore.
Garrymore played against a strong wind in the first half and trailed at half time by 6 points to 3. Kilmaine’s defensive setup frustrated Garrymore as many attacking moves broke down close to goal while up the other end frees kept the home side ahead.
The opening ten minutes of the second half changed the game in Garrymore’s favour, 1-3 without reply put them in a commanding lead playing with a strong breeze. Kilmaine did reply with a goal of their own moments later but struggled to get into scoring positions to build on the goal and relied heavily on frees.
Garrymore pulled ahead and look more dangerous as the game went on but were guilty of not converting good territory possession into scores.
Final score from Kilamine: Garrymore 1-11 Kilmaine 1-08
